Automotive Idiocy
Riceboy check:
- 4 cylinder car? Check.
- Excessively huge front bumper? Check.
- Tons of stickers everywhere? Check.
- Little to no real performance mods? Check.
(due to multiple letters of correction, I'm fixing some minor errors in this entry, I will note the fixes)
I continue to be facinated by these sorts of cars, in the way one is facinated by a horrible train wreck. If it was just a difference of style I won't care so much, it's the fact they are making a claim to 'performance' while so blatantly not actually driving a true performance vehicle. So lets pick another one apart shall we?
Ok, race cars have huge grilles at the front to duct air into the radiator (for cooling) or to the brakes (to prevent them overheating). Also the front bumpers are designed to provide downforce and keep the front end of the car firmly planted on the road.
However with just the grille and no ducting the cooling effects are almost completely lost. In fact in this car where can see the ground through the grille (blue arrow, look for the yellow of the parking lot stripe). In this case the air coming through the grille is not being ducted anywhere useful, and instead is getting caught up in the space between the bumper and the radiator support. This causes a lot of turbulence under the front edge of the car and can actually lift it up slightly making it less stable. So they got no noticable improvement in engine or brake cooling, and the car can end up less stable. Brilliant!
This bumper also has 'INTEGRA' molded into it (green arrow, hard to read even blown up), dispite the fact that the Integra is made by Acura, and this is clearly a Honda Civic.(It's actually a CRX, still not an Integra though)
Also one last thing, note the complete lack of turn signals. In his effort to look 'cool' he has also made his car illegal.
'R' stands for 'Riceboy'
Another rice-boy rule is that if you want a fast (or rather fast-looking) car, you need to have the letter 'R' appear on it as often as possible. The more 'R's the more serious a racer you are.
STICKERS!
Remember if you want a fast car, put lots of stickers from different companies on it, regardless of if those company's parts will make your car faster, or if you even have their parts installed. Oh and put them all over the car, like this guy who has them on both rear windows, and on the hood.
- NOS Ok, he gets this point, there is infact a NOS (or Nitrous Oxide) system installed in the car, and it will give him a significant performance improvement. It is a bit of a cheat though, since a NOS system can add 100+ horsepower to even a completely stock motorr. It's a way of adding lots of power without actually doing any reall engine work.
- Honda Racing Wait, I thought this was and Integra, wouldn't that make it Acura Racing? (Ok I flubbed this one, I'm not much for japanese cars and so didn't know Acura was a division of Honda. Oops.)
- GrillCraft sport grilles Err... yeah... performance grilles... rrrriiiggghhtttt...
- XENON They make custom lights. That'll make your car much faster. (Xenon also apparently makes body kits. However body kits will not make your car faster, and the really crazy ones can add lots of extra weigh and actually slow your car down)
- Brembo They make custom and high-performance brakes. This car is not however equiped with them, as the next image will prove.
Custom 20inch rims and stock brakes, now that's cool. Up front we have the stock disc brake system, but it's been painted red, apparently that makes it high performance. High performance enough he can claim having brembo brakes.
In the rear we have *laugh* *chortle* drum brakes! For those who don't know, drum brakes are a clumsier and less effective type of brakes, generally put on economy cars because they're cheaper. This guy is trying to lay all sorts of claims to performance, and is still running stock drum brakes on this thing. For goodness sakes, my non-performance '91 Ford station wagon has stock 4-wheel disc brakes. So if your car was made since at least the early '90s and still has drum brakes I'm going to laugh at you.
